Dan Smoke

A great Elder, Dan Smoke, passed away on Nov 4. With his life partner, Mary Lou, he supported research out of the School of Social Work, that considered how it was that the Two Row Wampum can become the framework for Settler and Indigenous youth reshaping their relationships with police.  Dan, along with Mary Lou,  was a significant part of an Indigenous Advisory Circle for the development and implementation of the interdisciplinary MSW course, Indigenous Wellbeing, Health, and Social Justice, that also became an Ontario/wide e-course. Dan was a co-author of a publication about this course, He has been a beautiful friend and teacher to those of us at Renison, uWaterloo, and beyond who had the privilege of engaging with him.
