Workshops for Field Instructors

The School of Social Work offers professional development opportunities for the field instructors who participate in our BSW and MSW Field Education programs.  Information about workshops and programs will be e-mailed to field instructors and will be posted on this website. Watch for updates!

Beginning Practicum Workshops at Renison (Winter)

Workshops for Field Instructors are offered by Renison University College in the Winter term of each year.  We encourage new field instructors to sign up!

Beginning Practicum Workshop at Laurier

In partnership with Wilfrid Laurier University, we are offering training to Field Instructors who are new to field instructing, or who have not taken a field instruction training course previously during the fall term.

The fall workshop took place on October 22, 2018. It was held at the Faculty of Social Work, Wilfrid Laurier University, in Kitchener (120 Duke Street West, Kitchener, ON, N2H 3W8) in the Auditorium, Room 101 on the first floor. Further information.


ONLINE field instructor training

We have developed an online version of our current beginning practicum workshops to provide you with the latest information, tools, and resources relating to social work supervision. You can complete this program from the convenience of your workplace or home; wherever you have an Internet connection.  This is a resource offered exclusively to field instructors in the Renison field education program.

Advanced Field Instructor Training 

The field education teams of the School of Social Work at Renison in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Work at Laurier organize the Advanced Field Instructor Training annually. Field Instructors from both universities are invited to attend the event.

This year’s Advanced Training was held at the Faculty of Social Work, Laurier on Tuesday March 5, 2019 – during Social Work Week. The workshops presented focused on: Vicarious Resilience in Field Education through Theatre of the Oppressed (led by Dr. Trish Van Katwyk and Dr. Amir Al-Azraki from Renison University College); Opioid Crisis and Addictions Work (led by Michael Hackbusch and Terry Nease from House of Friendship) and Kairos Blanket (led by Erin Hodson from Laurier).
