While
much
of
John’s
current
research
focuses
on
connections
between
salmon
and
ecosystems
in
British
Columbia,
past
studies
have
ranged
from
mating
systems
of
arctic
birds
to
conservation
of
Cambodian
watersnakes.
John
has
held
a
wide
variety
of
scientific
advisory
positions,
including
co-chair
of
the
sub-committee
that
assesses
extinction
risk
of
marine
fishes
for
the
Committee
on
the
Status
of
Endangered
Wildlife
in
Canada
(COSEWIC),
the
body
that
advises
the
federal
government
on
listing
decisions
for
the
Species
at
Risk
Act.
