​​Understanding and Supporting Neurodivergence​

Session Description

Most work and education settings have been designed by neurotypical people, for neurotypical people, yet an estimated 15-20% of Canadians identify as neurodivergent. In this workshop we will highlight the lived experience of neurodivergence as we describe 5 important concepts and focus on simple ways in which we can make our work environment more inclusive.  

​We will use interactive large group activities throughout the workshop. Recognizing that not everyone enjoys interactive activities, we encourage all participants to respect their individual comfort level with participation.​ 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Define neurodiversity and neurodivergence
  2. Describe common barriers that neurodivergent faculty, staff, and students commonly encounter
  3. Describe workplace processes and practices that reduce barriers and increase support for neurodivergent people​
