Introduction to Exploratory Data Analysis with R

Wednesday, February 14, 2024 9:30 am - 11:30 am EST (GMT -05:00)

Data usually come in the form of a table or database. It is difficult to understand the data beyond their sizes and the types of variables in these formats. In this workshop, we will present graphical and numerical techniques to uncover the structure of the data. We will also discuss useful statistics for describing distributions of data, and systematic approach to explore relationships between variables. Understanding the data structure and how variables are related can help one design statistical analyses that yield meaningful results. The initial explorations of correlations are critical before one attempts to relate potential predictors to the response variables.

This in-person workshop will be held at DC 1568 (inside the DC library). The workshop includes a lot of hands-on practice. Participants are required to bring their laptops/devices with R and RStudio already downloaded and installed.

Registration is free to all students, faculty and staff at the University of Waterloo. Participants with no programming background are encouraged to go over the basics of R first.
