Early exposure gives undergrads an edge in quantum information science

In late May, the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) welcomed 27 students to the annual Undergraduate School for Experimental Quantum Information Processing (USEQIP) for the 16th year running.

This year IQC hosted students from 19 institutions in six countries and over two weeks they were introduced to a wide range of topics related to quantum information, giving them a taste for the latest in quantum theory and applied research.

It was a pleasure to guide this year's USEQIP students through a set of experiments aimed at introducing what quantum technologies are all about! I was impressed with the speed in which they gained an intuition for experimental quantum information processing through a combination of hands-on activities and lectures. Although this program was only two weeks, I had many high impact and insightful conversations, all of which assured me that this cohort will go on to accomplish great things in the field of quantum science and technology.
