Alliances and relationships

University of Waterloo

• As part of its mission to interact with academe and practice, UWCISA seeks to create and sustain relationships with academic units with similar objectives and professional associations with an interest in information integrity and information systems assurance.
• UWCISA directors are members of the following UW organizations:
  • Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute – Efrim Boritz, Alec Cram, and Theo Stratopoulos
  • Waterloo.AI – Efrim Boritz and Theo Stratopoulos.

CPA Canada

• We have an alliance with CPA Canada, which is a founding and primary sponsor of UWCISA.
• Through UWCISA and its members we have participated in several initiatives including the redevelopment of the IT competency map, assurance innovation, and the information integrity project.
• UWCISA members are members of the following CPA Canada committees and task forces:
  • Audit Data Analytics Task Force – Malik Datardina and Theo Stratopoulos
  • Audit and Assurance Technology Committee – Malik Datardina and Louise Hayes
  • Technology Advisory Committee – Malik Datardina

Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)

• We have a partnership with IIA Canada and the Toronto Chapter of IIA, who are primary sponsors of UWCISA.
• Under the direction of associate director Adam Vitalis, we are working with the IIA to increase student awareness about relevant careers and to create a more formalized academic/employment path for such careers.

Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA)

• We have an alliance with the Toronto Chapter of ISACA, which is a founding and primary sponsor of UWCISA.
• We are seeking to expand our alliance to other Canadian chapters of ISACA through the good offices of the Toronto Chapter.

International Journal of Accounting Information Systems (IJAIS)

• We have an alliance with the IJAIS through its co-sponsorship of our Symposium and related special symposium issue of the IJAIS. 
• UWCISA members Theo Stratopoulos and Victor Wang will be the guest editors of a special issue of the IJAIS on Artificial Intelligence, with a focus on Large Language Models, in Accounting. A call for papers was placed July 17, 2023 and the special issue will be published in 2025.
• UWCISA directors Efrim Boritz and Theo Stratopoulos serve on the editorial board of IJAIS.

Accounting Information Systems (AIS) Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA)

• We have an alliance with the AIS section of the AAA and its Journal of Information Systems (JIS).
• UWCISA directors Efrim Boritz and Theo Stratopoulos were the co-senior editors of JIS from 2020 to 2022 and continue to serve on the editorial board of JIS along with UWCISA member Louise Hayes.

Strategic and Emerging Technologies in Accounting (SET) Section of the AAA

• We have an alliance with the SET section of the AAA and its Journal of EmergingTechnologies in Accounting (JETA). 
• UWCISA director Efrim Boritz serves on the editorial board of JETA.

AICPA 

• UWCISA directors are members of the following AICPA task forces:
  • Trust Services Information Integrity Task Force – Efrim Boritz
  • Cybersecurity Task Force – Efrim Boritz  

Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB)

• UWCISA directors are members of the following AASB working groups:
  • Audit Evidence Advisory Group – Tim Bauer

Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA)

• We have an alliance with the CAAA, which was a sponsor of our Symposium in 2017, 2019, and 2021. Several UWCISA members are members of the CAAA.

Virtual International Collaborative for Education (VICE)

• We have partnered with an international network of centres with similar purposes to create the VICE, which shares course offerings among center members.
