Description:

Knowledge mobilization is a term used to describe various activities that support knowledge exchange between those who create it and those who could use it, such as government, industry, or civil society. Knowledge mobilization concepts and tactics can be applied by students, staff, and faculty to improve the impact of their work. In this session, participants will learn what knowledge mobilization is, why it’s needed, and how to get started.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn about the knowledge mobilization framework and how it can strengthen the impact of your research.
  • Apply the knowledge mobilization concept to improve strategic planning through goal setting, aligning activities to objectives, and applying lessons to support continuous learning.
  • Set clear research impact goals and identify your pathway to change.
  • Identify the audience for your key messages.
  • Learn how to select effective knowledge mobilization activities based on your objectives and intended audience.

Qualify for the WaterLeadership Certificate

A WaterLeadership certificate of completion will be issued to those who attend all four modules and complete the corresponding assignments. Each assignment is estimated to take between 60-90 minutes to complete.  If you are attempting to complete the certificate and are not available to attend one or more of the sessions in-person, please contact Nancy.Goucher@uwaterloo.ca to discuss alternative arrangements.

Students taking Water 602 in Fall 2023 who were present for Nancy Goucher’s guest lecture on September 20, 2023 may be exempt from this module. Contact Nancy.Goucher@uwaterloo.ca for more information.

Registration is required. Please register using your @uwaterloo.ca email address. Note that the WaterLeadership program is only open to University of Waterloo students, faculty and staff.
