This one day workshop will cover the phases of the construction of stormwater, wastewater, forcemains, watermains, and utility pipelines using the trenchless microtunnelling construction method. Attendees will learn the state-of-the-art of this increasing popular pipeline construction method that only requires entrance and exit shafts to install the pipe on line and on grade through a wide variety of ground conditions.

Canadian Water Network Knowledge Mobilization training program

We are pleased to announce that the Canadian Water Network (CWN) has developed a Knowledge Mobilization (KM) training program, and will be offering that program to Water Institute members in a 1-day workshop.

The workshop will be held on May 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Waterloo main campus, and will consist of four training modules which are detailed below.

Using Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) to Mitigate Risk in Trenchless Projects

CATT logo
This workshop, hosted by the University of Waterloo Centre for Advancement of Trenchless Technologies (CATT), will present state-of-the-art information and new developments for various types of pipes commonly used for water, sewer, and drainage applications for gravity and pressure systems.

Condition Assessment & Rehab of Asbestos Cement Pipelines

CATT logo
In the past, asbestos cement pipes have been frequently installed in water distribution systems. These pipes were favoured to replace metallic pipes because of relatively better corrosion resistance properties. However, the longevity and serviceability of deteriorating asbestos cement pipes is a major concern in many jurisdictions.

Watermain Defect Coding, Condition Grading and Renovation

CATT logo
The workshop will present a standardized defect coding, condition classification and grading system for water distribution pipelines. The condition coding and classification protocol is developed to identify, characterize, and report various types of anomalies, defects and construction features that can impact water pipelines’ structural and operational (hydraulic and water quality) performance.

Microtunnelling for Municipal Construction

CATT logo
This one-day workshop will focus on the construction of municipal pipelines using the microtunnelling trenchless construction method. Over the past several years Ontario has grown from not using microtunnelling to becoming a leader in North America for complex and challenging projects that include curved concrete pipelines.

Join us for a facilitated panel discussion on coastal watersheds in the Anthropocene. Supported by the OceanCanada Partnership and the Water Institute, this public event is being organized as part of a two-day workshop with the goal to develop and apply a social-ecological system perspective to broaden our understanding of abrupt and rapid changes in coastal watersheds.
