The Water Institute is pleased to announce that Kirsten M. Müller, professor from the Department of Biology at the University of Waterloo, will deliver a keynote lecture as part of the Institute’s annual World Water Day celebration on March 20, 2020.

Professor Müller will present a lecture entitled “Reflections on leadership from a distant continent”. She will share her experiences from being one of only four Canadians that were selected to be part of the Homeward Bound program in November of 2019 that sailed to over twenty Antarctic destinations.

The goal of the Homeward Bound program is to empower and advance a global network of 1000 women in STEM to lead and influence senior decision making towards a sustainable future for our planet.

During the Antarctic voyage, Professor Müller split her time between leadership training and landings in Antarctica. Discussions and teaching revolved around values-based authentic leadership with integrity that focused on four key areas: leadership, strategy, visibility, and science, delivered by a global faculty. She will share first-hand experiences of the effects of climate change on water and how it affects our planet.

Registration is open for the Water Institute’s World Water Day celebration. The public event will take place in the Science and Teaching Complex on Friday, March 20, and will share the United Nations world water day theme of "Water and Climate Change".
