The Great Lakes Science Advisory Board provides advice on research to the International Joint Commission and to the Great Lakes Water Quality Board. As part of the board, Nandita will provide advice and expertise on scientific matters referred to the board by the International Joint Commission.
Basu, Director of Waterloo's interdisciplinary Collaborative Water Program, brings expertise in anthropogenic influences on water quality and quantity, particularly within the Great Lakes. Her research focuses on innovative solutions to today’s water challenges.
Rooney was appointed in 2018 to the International Joint Commission Science Advisory Board as a binational member on the Research Co-ordination Committee. Their mandate is to provide scientific advice to the Great Lakes Water Quality Board and the International Joint Commission, particularly on topics pertinent to the Commission’s triennial assessment of progress and the Parties’ science priorities. The committee that Rebecca serves on is mainly comprised of government research managers -- the other standing committee of the International Joint Commission's Science Advisory Board is the Science Priority Committee and is mostly researchers.
