On March 22, Water Institute researchers from the Global Water Futures program will join a panel discussion to explore the University of Waterloo’s legacy in developing sustainable water management solutions under the $78 million pan-Canadian Global Water Futures program.
Funded in 2016 through the Canada First Research Excellence Fund, the Global Water Futures program has created an enduring legacy in water research and practice. This panel will highlight innovative contributions from research teams addressing critical water security challenges that profoundly impact the daily lives of Canadians dealing with threats like droughts, floods and harmful algal blooms.
The session promises to leave you feeling hopeful and inspired by the impact-driven research that is ushering in a new era of resilience, innovation, and sustainable water management in Canada.
Panel members include Nandita Basu, Professor, Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Global Water Sustainability and Ecohydrology, Claude Duguay, Professor, University Research Chair in Cryosphere & Hydrosphere from Space, Jimmy Lin, Professor, Computer Science, Merrin Macrae, Professor, Hydrology and Biogeochemistry, David Rudolph, Professor, Groundwater and Philippe Van Cappellen, Canada Research Excellence Chair Laureate in Ecohydrology. The panel will be moderated by Kerry Freek, Principal at KF Editorial Services and former Vice President of Ontario’s Water Technology Acceleration Project (WaterTAP).
This panel discussion is part of the Water Institute’s annual World Water Day celebrations. It will follow a Circle Talk featuring Autumn Peltier, an internationally recognized Indigenous Rights and Water activist, who will illuminate the critical importance of water and youth empowerment in shaping a sustainable future.
