Water Institute member Christine Dow, professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management and Canada Research Chair in Glacier Hydrology and Ice Dynamics gave an interview yesterday to CBC Radio One 860AM.

Christine spoke about her experience and research on the second largest ice sheet in the world, the Greenland Ice Sheet, which is losing mass at an accelerated rate. The current heat event has resulted in temperatures being ten degrees warmer than normal which is causing the accelerated melting.

Christine lived 70km inland on the ice sheet for a few months and was surrounded by ice for the duration of the research. She discusses ice dynamics and meltwater activity on the ice sheet while she was there.

With climate change becoming more of a household topic she encourages listeners to see what they can do locally to slow the process which could ultimately cause sea levels to rise and infiltration of water into communities.
