Water Institute member William (Bill) K. Annable, associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, accepted the challenge, and over the past year, has developed a series of videos sharing his river hydraulics, hydrology and environmental monitoring expertise.
More specifically, Bill has developed and published a series of instructional videos detailing specific hydrologic and hydraulic field and desktop methods of interest to water students and practitioners, including topics such as Quantifying river discharge using the velocity-area method, Delineating watershed boundaries, Surveying river cross sections and the Wolman Pebble Count and Infiltration techniques.
“Teaching even a small subset of field techniques
to both undergraduate and graduate students over the past number of years has always been a highlight in the environmental pedagogy for me,” Annable said.
“Although the videos do not create comradery in sharing field experiences together, hopefully the explanations and interactive graphics provide sound explanations of various field techniques.”
“It is nice to see that the videos are being used by students but also consultants and government agency personnel alike.”
