The Water Institute is delighted to announce that Dr. Mark Servos, Professor in the Department of Biology and Canada Research Chair in Water Quality Protection, was honoured this past weekend with a major award from the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC). SETAC is a worldwide, professional organization dedicated to environmental integrity and education, with more than 5,000 members over 90 countries.
Dr. Servos, named a SETAC Fellow in 2018, was awarded the prestigious Stephen J. Klaine Environmental Education Award at the SETAC North America 40th Annual Meeting in Toronto on Sunday, November 3rd.
The highly regarded award was established to recognize an individual or organization for significant contributions to environmental education. The award is named in honor of Steve Klaine, who touched the lives of so many with his dedication to environmental science, teaching and mentoring of students during his 30-year career.
“Steve Klaine was a remarkable teacher, mentor, researcher and individual that was committed to environmental education in all forms. It is an honour to receive an award associated with his legacy.” said Dr. Servos.
Dr. Servos was nominated by several peers and former students for his dedication to providing exceptional learning opportunities for young professionals and graduate students, and for helping to build the next generation of water professionals. In recent years, Dr. Servos has been fundamental in the development and delivery of the University of Waterloo’s innovative Collaborative Water Program that promotes interdisciplinary perspectives and experiential learning.
