The start of a new decade is inspiring and at the Water institute we welcome the opportunities ahead. Joining us for the challenge are some amazing new members. A sincere welcome and we look forward to collaborating!

Andrea Brookfield
Andrea Brookfield

Assistant Professor, Faculty of Science, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

Andrea joined the University of Waterloo from the University of Kansas in January 2020. Andrea is a hydrogeologist interested in the development and use of numerical tools to simulate fluid flow and transport for prediction, management, and process investigation.

Jarvie
Helen Jarvie

Professor of Water and Global Environmental Change, Faculty of Environment, Department of Geography and Environmental Management

Helen joined the University of Waterloo in January 2020 from from the United Kingdom’s Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH). Helen’s main research interests are in river-system biogeochemistry, with particular emphasis on nutrient (phosphorus, P, and nitrogen, N) cycling, eutrophication, and water quality, from watershed to global perspectives.

Quinn Lewis
Quinn Lewis

Assistant Professor, Faculty of Environment, Department of Geography and Environmental Management

Quinn joined the University of Waterloo in January 2020 after a 2-year post-doc at Indiana University. Quinn’s research focuses on morphology and evolution of fluvial landscapes, with the unifying theme of research on process, form, and the transfer of material and energy that links the two.

Liu
Jennifer Liu

Associate Professor; Associate Chair, Graduate Studies, Faculty of Arts, Department of Anthropology

Jennifer is a cultural and medical anthropologist whose work intersects with science and technology studies and global health and addresses emerging biomedical technologies, science and health governance and ethics, and transnational knowledge production. She has worked in the San Francisco Bay Area, Taiwan, Zambia and most recently, Bangladesh on an urban water security research project.

Mekonnen
Tizazu Mekonnen

Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering

Tizazu's research interests involve polymer modifications and processing including: dispersion rheology and dynamics of colloidal nanomaterials, renewable polymers, nanostructured polymers, polymer structure-property and applications development and electrospinning.

Randy Stotler
Randy Stotler

Associate Professor, Faculty of Science, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

Randy joined the University of Waterloo from the University of Kansas in January 2020.  Randy’s research area is groundwater and includes a variety of topics, including water availability and sustainability, effects of changing land use and climate on our water resources, groundwater recharge, permafrost hydrology, and isotope geochemistry.
