Key topics covered

Pothole wetlands are critical systems of hydrological, biogeochemical, and ecological value in Prairie regions. They have been disappearing at an alarming rate due to agricultural expansion, thus prompting governments to examine strategies for preserving existing ones and restoring lost ones. Recent policies about wetland conservation or restoration, however, require that the value of wetlands be defined based on the functions they perform for the landscape they lie in.

This talk will briefly focus on wetland hydrological and biogeochemical functions and use a case study to show how such functions can be quantified to support policy-making.
