WCMR Festive Photo Contest

Congratulations to Atiyeh Ahmadi for her winning festive photo.

This microfluidic image shows three groups of microbes drifting together like bright holiday ribbons. The red attackers, yellow susceptible cells, and dark dead cells form warm, glowing patterns that look almost like melted candles or flowing festive lights. Their movement creates a simple but striking holiday feeling—small microbes coming together in a colourful winter scene.

Technique:
Made using a microfluidic trap to observe mixed microbial populations. Only color strengthening was added to make the natural festive-like contrasts stand out.
