Attendees will learn how to recognize the different challenges hidden behind the statement, “Contacts didn't work for me,” and how specialty lens designs can provide alternative solutions for patients who have struggled with conventional soft contact lenses. Through practical examples and case-based discussion, the presentation will introduce the fundamentals of scleral, rigid gas permeable (RGP), and hybrid contact lenses—including how they work, when they may be appropriate, and the types of patients who may benefit. Particular emphasis will be placed on the role of the entire optometric team in identifying potential specialty lens candidates, asking the right questions, communicating appropriate expectations, and knowing when to refer a patient for specialty contact lens evaluation.
