Lifestyle Modifications for Ocular Surface Disease and Ocular Allergies

Lifestyle behaviours exert a substantial influence on the ocular surface and the prevalence, severity, and chronicity of ocular allergies. This session will explore how modern environmental exposures, digital device use, sleep quality, diet, hydration, outdoor activity patterns, contact lens wear, cosmetic practices, and personal hygiene behaviours interact to affect tear-film stability, immune responsiveness, and ocular surface health. Participants will gain insight into the multifactorial factors that contribute to ocular allergies and learn how targeted prevention strategies, including blink-optimised screen use, environmental allergen control, nutritional modulation, and improved eyelid hygiene, can help reduce symptom burden and support long-term ocular surface health.
