The George and Judy Woo Centre for Sight Enhancement helps you maximize your vision. We care for people of all ages who have a variety of goals, whether it’s:
- Learning to adapt to reduced vision and maintaining your independence
- Overcoming problems stemming from your two eyes having difficulty working together
- Recovering your vision or reducing bothersome visual symptoms following a concussion or stroke
- Improving your athletic performance
Care at our centre goes beyond routine eye examinations. We use combinations of special assessments, exercises, lenses and technology to create solutions that fit your needs.
We take a holistic approach to your care, drawing on the expertise of other healthcare professionals in our clinics, including occupational therapists, technology specialists and counsellors, if necessary.
Most importantly, we take the time to get to know you, to explain your care and to work with you to address your concerns.
Our centre was renamed after a historic gift by George (OD ’64, DSc ’19) and Judy Woo. Dr. Woo co-founded what was then known as the Low Vision Clinic in 1974 and was the founding director of the Centre for Sight Enhancement.
Our Services
Low Vision Service
The Low Vision Service helps people with vision loss that cannot be corrected with lenses or surgery maximize their remaining vision and their independence in a variety of ways.
Binocular Vision Service
The Binocular Vision Service helps your two eyes work together better. We can help deal with problems such as amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (eye turn), double vision and other types of binocular vision dysfunction.
Brain Injury Service
The Brain Injury Service helps you recover vision or reduce bothersome visual symptoms following a brain injury, whether a stroke, concussion or other type of brain injury.
Sports Vision Service
The Sports Vision Service helps athletes, whether casual, elite or professional, improve their performance by improving their vision and/or visual skills.
Vision Therapy
Depending on your individual needs and goals, some of our services may recommend vision therapy, which can help with issues especially stemming from binocular vision dysfunction or brain injury.
Vision therapy is an evidence-based regimen of individualized activities and exercises made to retrain the brain and eyes to work better as a team and improve vision functioning.
Vision therapy is offered by the Binocular Vision Service at our Waterloo Clinic.
