On March 8, 2021, prof. Krzysztof Czarnecki gave an invited lecture titled "Designing & Testing Autonomous Vehicles: What Engineers are Doing" as part of the lecture series at the Electrical & Computer Engineering department at the University of Waterloo. The video is available on YouTube.

Abstract

Prof. Krzysztof Czarnecki participated in an expert panel on connected and autonomous vehicles and shared mobility organized by the Council of Canadian Academies and sponsored by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED).

The executive summary and the complete report from the panel as well as a press release are available on the CAC's website.

The grand opening of the new Autonomous Vehicle Research & Intelligence Laboratory (AVRIL) took place on Tue, Feb 14, 2020, with over 60 guests, including the federal and provincial ministers, MPPs, and the president of the University of Waterloo. AVRIL is now the new home of the UW Moose as well as many other projects.

Public Autonomoose Demo Day

On October 31, the Autonomoose team hosted a public demo day. During the day, we gave autonomous rides to over 100 participants. For more information about the event, visit Public Autonomoose Demo Day Eventbrite page.

During the demonstration, we showcased static obstacle avoidance, dynamic object detection, localization on the map, and decision making, and left-turn at an all-way-stop intersection with oncoming traffic (the moose had to stop and yield to the oncoming car).

Globe Drive Mobility Summit'2018

On Feb. 8, prof. Czarnecki participated in a panel discussion on the viability of automated driving in severe weather conditions. For the highlights of the discussion, see Globe and Mail article.

Members of Waterloo Intelligent Systems Engineering lab helped develop and deliver another successful automated driving demonstration for Renesas at Consumer Electronics Show (CES'18) in Las Vegas, Jan 8-11, 2018. The car performed flawlessly for four days, delivering automated driving experience to hundreds of visitors.

This year, the demo included

The research focus of our lab has changed and we are changing the name to reflect that. The Generative Software Development Lab (GSD Lab) is now officially renamed to Waterloo Intelligent Systems Engineering Lab (WISE Lab).

We will archive the GSD Lab website, which will remain available at its current address http://gsd.uwaterloo.ca/.

Good bye and welcome!
