The WISE Lab is excited to announce that it will host the 1st Workshop on VLM4RWD: Vision Language Models: Challenges of Real-World Deployment at the NeurIPS 2025 conference in Mexico City, Mexico.
The Globe and Mail Jun 5, 2025 article about edge cases highlights the need for self-driving cars to safely handle unusual and dangerous traffic situations, well beyond the 99% currently considered as good performance. The article highlights research done at WISE Lab.
UW Moose and WISE Sim were used to create a self-driving platoon for experiments from the paper "Enhancing Safety in Mixed Traffic: Learning-Based Modeling and Efficient Control of Autonomous and Human-Driven Vehicles".
In collaboration with Communitech within the The Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network (AVIN), WISE Lab completed the Lanelet2 mapping project. The goal of the project was to develop a method for generating Lanelet2 maps suitable for automated driving and validate the map using traffic simulations.

On March 8, 2021, prof. Krzysztof Czarnecki gave an invited lecture titled "Designing & Testing Autonomous Vehicles: What Engineers are Doing" as part of the lecture series at the Electrical & Computer Engineering department at the University of Waterloo. The video is available on YouTube.

Our SAE World Congress Experience conference article "Modes of Automated Driving System Scenario Testing: Experience Report and Recommendations" has been selected as one of the best papers at the conference and it has been published in SAE International Journal Advances & Current Practices in Mobility under the same title.
On Oct 28, 2020, prof. Czarnecki delivered a keynote at MODELS'20 entitled "Models in AI-enabled systems: the case of automated driving". Watch the video on YouTube.
