Department
at
the
University
of
Waterloo
is
seeking
an
outstanding
candidate
for
a
Research
Associate
position,
available
immediately.
The
successful
candidate
will
have
completed
PhD
in
Computer
Science,
Computer
Engineering,
or
a
related
discipline,
with
specialization
in
one
or
more
of
the
following
areas:
machine
learning,
control
engineering,
and
robotics.
The
objective
is
to
develop
new
methods
and
approaches
to
behavioral
and
trajectory
planning
for
autonomous
vehicles
based
on
reinforcement
learning
and
the
safety
assurance
of
such
systems.
The
position
is
funded
by
ERATO
Project
"Metamathematics
for
Systems
Design".
The
successful
candidate
will
be
expected
to
lead
research
activities,
work
both
independently
and
collaboratively,
mentor
graduate
students,
publish
research
results
at
top
international
research
venues,
and
be
willing
and
able
to
move
back-and-forth
between
theory
and
practice.
The
WISE
Lab
and
the
ERATO
project
an
enriched
collaborative
environment,
including
faculty
collaborators
in
computer
science,
engineering,
mechatronics,
and
systems
design,
high-tech
industry
partners,
and
a
vibrant
research
program
in
autonomous
driving.
Based
on
qualifications
a
salary
range
of
$70,000
to
$90,000
for
this
full-time
position
will
be
considered.
Initial
appointment
will
be
for
one
year.
Re-appointment
thereafter
is
subject
to
mutual
agreement.
