Women in Engineering (WiE) supports current women-identifying and non-binary engineers and students while encouraging the next generation of women to pursue careers in engineering.
This program was established to address the issues that women engineers face and encourage more girls to pursue engineering and better reflect the gender ratio of the general population within the profession.
WiE Objectives
- To give women of all ages the opportunity to choose engineering as a career. This is done through special outreach events such as Go ENG Girl for girls in grades 7 - 10, Engineering Badge day for girl guides, and other programs focused on women and non-binary youth.
- To encourage and promote an environment where women can pursue scientific work and study. This is done by providing a forum for current students and faculty that can highlight and share accomplishments with others.
WiE Committee
Women in Engineering is governed and directed by a committee of representatives who hold various other roles at the University of Waterloo. Members names, titles and contact information can be found under Contacts.
Committee Undergraduate and Graduate Representatives are chosen by the current undergraduate and graduate student representatives.
Other committee members are designated by the Dean's office.
