Waterloo Engineering retained a place in the global top 40 in the world rankings for 2024 released by global education analyst Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

The faculty was rated 40th in the broad category of engineering and technology based on academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations and research impact in a field of more than 1,500 universities.

The influential rankings saw gains for the Faculty’s electrical engineering program which moved to 28th, up from 29 in 2023. Mechanical engineering and chemical engineering both continue to be ranked in the top 100.

Civil engineering held its position in the 51 to 100 range. Architecture was again ranked between 101 and 150.

The 54 subjects ranked by QS do not include other Engineering disciplines at Waterloo. However, the continued high placement of Waterloo in the engineering and technology subject areas is indicative of the ongoing strength of the University’s engineering programs.
