This month, thousands of Waterloo Warriors will cross the stage at the Physical Activities Complex (PAC) to receive their degrees at our spring Convocation. As Vice-President, Advancement, I'm honoured to celebrate this milestone with our newest alumni. There is much excitement on this day, and I feel privileged to be part of it.

The University of Waterloo has won three awards from the CCAE Prix d'Excellence.

Last week I had the pleasure of travelling to London, UK, with our President and Vice-Chancellor, Vivek Goel. London is a hub for international finance, but it also has a burgeoning tech scene with successful startups, technological innovation and advances in sustainability – areas that are also differentiating strengths for the University of Waterloo. This alignment makes the city an important destination for University leaders as we continue to build academic and industry partnerships worldwide.

Creating sustainable futures

Collaboration was top of mind at this year’s Waterloo Innovation Summit, “Rethinking global travel: Designing more sustainable journeys from A to B.”

On April 21, alumni and business leaders gathered at the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto to explore the latest advances in sustainable transportation. Audiences learned about groundbreaking research partnerships and bold business ventures across the travel sector, including electric and autonomous vehicles, aeronautics, clean energy and urban planning.

As the top research university in Canada and a world leader in co-operative education, the University of Waterloo is well known to North American industry and government leaders. Yet, Waterloo also has a robust global presence, notably in Asia, thanks to the strong connections we’ve built over the years through our co-op program and our international students and alumni in the region. We’ve continued to forge positive relationships across Asia, which has led to exciting opportunities for students and researchers.
