Computer software has frequently been used to perform creative tasks, such as generating artwork or discovering new mathematical proofs. But if a computer is intended to be creative, how do we measure its performance or decide if it is doing a good job? We tackle this seemingly subjective question by looking at the psychology and cognitive science of creativity, and surveying how it is, or can be used or, at times, is egregiously not used by current computational creativity research. The talk will come with practical advice for computer scientists who want to build creative applications of their own.
