Rabbitbrush

Chrysothamnus Nutt. includes herbaceous perennials and shrubs native to western North America. Anderson (1984) presented an overview of the genus in the broad sense.  Urbatsch, Roberts & Neubig (2006; Flora North America) presented a much reduced treatment of the genus with only 9 species recognized.  Species formerly in the genus have been assigned to Cuniculotinus, Ericameria, and Lorandersonia including Rubber Rabbitbrush (Ericameria nauseous); it  is the most widely distributed of the rabbitbrush and includes 22 subspecies.

Heads lack ray florets.  Phyllaries are in vertical ranks or spirals.
