Employer: University of Waterloo, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering
Work location: Waterloo
Starting date: Available immediately

Description

The student will work on the microstructure-property correlation in laser welding of advanced high strength steels such as, dual phase steel, TRIP steel and martensitic steel and high strength steel such as HSLA for automotive structural applications. The student has the chance to work with our project partners ArcelorMittal Dofasco Inc. and CANMET-Materials Technology Laboratory. In addition to these companies, the candidate will network with dozens of other industrial supporters of the research lab, and leverage experiences to open further employment opportunities.

This student will be involved in doing high level materials characterization using electron microscopy, nanoindentation, as well as other tools available in the well-equipped Centre of Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ), in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, University of Waterloo under the supervision of Professor Y. Norman Zhou, Professor Adrian Gerlich and Sashank S. Nayak.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in metallurgy engineering, materials science and engineering, or mechanical engineering from recognized university or institute is required.
  • Technical publication from the research work during the master’s degree would be an asset.
