Custom-designed multi-process welding system has been commissioned which combines an 8 kW IPG Fiber laser with Lincoln S500 arc source, LHW-P power supplies for hot or cold wire feed, and Real-time Weld Monitoring, with 5 interchangeable heads:
- D50 wobble laser welding head
- Hybrid laser GMAW
- Laser hot-wire
- Autogenous
- Cutting head
Applications
Future research directions will involve applying novel hybrid laser welding techniques to transportation, energy, and medical industries.
