Research Projects
Double-sided arc welding (DSAW)
The double-sided arc welding (DSAW) process, as applied to high speed welding of aluminum alloy sheets in the butt joint configuration for the making of tailor welded blanks and other sheet metal fabrication applications, is being studied. DSAW is being investigated in order to identify the effect of different variables on achievement of acceptable welds with good cathodic cleaning of the aluminum oxides from both sides of the weld. Acceptable welds are being characterized by their appearance, mechanical properties and metallurgical structure.
