Mind, medicine, and mechanisms: A conference in honour of Paul Thagard

Paul Thagard was Professor of Philosophy at the University of Waterloo from 1992 until his retirement in 2016. He was also affiliated with Psychology and Computer Science, served as the Director of the Cognitive Science Program and held a University Research Chair. Paul is a graduate of the Universities of Saskatchewan, Cambridge, Toronto (Ph.D in philosophy) and Michigan (M.S. in computer science). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and has won a Molson Prize and a Killam Prize.

Computer Museum Brainstorming Session

The Faculty of Mathematics is sponsoring a brainstorming session to populate displays that showcase the history of computing today at 2:00 p.m. in MC 5501. Faculty, staff, retirees from across campus are invited to attend. Refreshments will be provided.

The session organizers are looking to collect stories, anecdotes and notes to develop three displays including:

EWB: The co-founders share the story of their journey

The co-founders of world-renowned humanitarian organization Engineers Without Borders, Parker Mitchell (BASc 1999) and George Roter (BASc 1999), will deliver a public lecture titled “Global Impact One Engineer at a Time: Why we Founded Engineers Without Borders" about their journey from their time as engineering students at the University of Waterloo, to the founding of EWB, and their careers since and beyond. Students, alumni, and the community are invited to hear their entrepreneurial journey and then to ask questions in a Q&A session.
