Did you know that none of the Centre’s initiatives would be possible without support from our community? Donations are a key source of income for the Centre, which never would have existed if not for the generosity and ongoing support of the Kindred Credit Union and Conrad Grebel University College. Consider how you could make a difference by donating to the Centre for Peace Advancement.

Since it opened in September 2014, the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement has worked alongside community members to catalyze meaningful collaboration and advance peacebuilding. The Centre has been a home away from home for over 140 students, 24 start-ups, and 7 affiliate organizations, also known as Core Collaborators, and its impact grows every year.

The Centre’s communication efforts often focus on highlighting the accomplishments and milestones of community members, but did you know that none of this would be possible without financial support from people like you? In fact, donations are a key source of income for the Centre.

To learn more about the Centre’s accomplishments, visit our Impact Summary web page.

Almost a decade ago, in November 2011, Grebel and Kindred first announced the partnership that would become the Centre for Peace Advancement. A gift of $1 million from what was then known as the Mennonite Savings and Credit Union was amplified by $500,000 in additional donations, building the Centre at Grebel. Kindred and Grebel have continued to grow their partnership through the Centre, with both providing ongoing financial support for core operations.

What does that mean for you? It means that donating to one of the Centre’s initiatives can amplify the positive impact that our participants and programs are in the Kitchener-Waterloo region and beyond.

There are currently three key ways that donations are used to support the Centre for Peace Advancement’s efforts: the Grebel Fund, the Grebel Gallery Endowment, and the Peace Incubator Fund, all of which accept one-time, repeated, and legacy gifts.

  • Financial support through the Grebel Fund allows the Centre to support peace start-ups, organize community engagement events, fund peace-related research projects, provide peace building training, and more. When you donate to the Grebel Fund, you can select “Centre for Peace Advancement” under the “I would like to support another area” option.
  • Contributions to the Grebel Gallery endowment enable the Gallery to amplify the voices of artists who are striving to advance peace, and to promote the discussion of important topics. This option can be selected by indicating your choice of the “Grebel Gallery” under “Endowments for Student Awards and Academic Programs.”
  • Finally, through the Peace Incubator Fund, peace start-ups are able to access seed funding each semester to accelerate their learning and stimulate the development of their ventures. The Peace Incubator connects the Centre to the rest of Waterloo’s Innovation Ecosystem, catalyzing entrepreneurship opportunities and Waterloo’s ability to make a difference. To donate, click on “I would like to support another area”, and select the “Peace Incubator Fund”. Plus, since 2017 all contributions to the Incubator Fund have been matched by the Bauman family Peace Incubator, so your gift for peace will double!

Whether you are an individual or represent an organization, you want to reconnect with the University College you called home during your own studies, or you simply want to support equitable development and entrepreneurship in your community, you can make a difference by supporting the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement. Consider donating today.
