After months of research, learning, and preparation, the six top Map the System teams at UWaterloo will compete at the virtual Campus Final on April 7, 2022.
Map the System is a global challenge hosted by Oxford University that tasks students with mapping a problem using systems-thinking tools. Students will pitch their completed "map" of their problem to a panel of judges, with the winners receiving cash prizes and the opportunity to represent the University of Waterloo at the virtual Canadian Final
The 2022 Map the System judges are:
Jacob Crane
Jacob Crane is the Indigenous Entrepreneurship Program Manager at St. Paul's University College. Jacob is from Tsuut'ina Nation in Alberta and brings two decades of experience and a passion for supporting Indigenous communities in Canada and the United States. Jacob has worked as the Executive Director for the SLC Air Protectors, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving Indigenous people in Utah. He co-founded and runs a media production company called The Arrow’s Journey, which showcases the stories of successful small Indigenous youth-led businesses and non-profits across the United States.
Christine Moffat
Christine Moffat is a Researcher and Student Advisor with the University of Waterloo's Problem Lab. Christine supports the Problem Lab by designing and developing new programs and hands-on workshops, coaching student innovators through the Quantum Valley Investments® Problem Pitch, and researching new areas of interest for internal and external partners.
Christine holds a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from Western University, and has more than ten years of experience working with small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Muhammed Ahsanur Rahim
Muhammed Ahsanur Rahim is a PhD candidate in the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development at the University of Waterloo and was the University of Waterloo representative at Map the System Global in 2021. When he competed in Map the System 2021, his team researched foreign labour conditions in Malaysian palm oil plantations, winning the campus level competition, and competing at the Canadian and Global levels.
Laura Schnurr
Laura Schnurr is Director of Climate Transitions at Tamarack Institute.
Laura leads Tamarack's work on Climate Transitions and the Sustainable Development Goals. She is passionate about supporting cities and communities in their journeys towards ensuring a just, equitable and sustainable future for the next 7 generations and beyond. Through events, publications, communities of practice and other learning opportunities, Laura is helping advance the 2030 Agenda in Canada with a specific focus on the goals related to equity and climate change.
The University of Waterloo Map the System Campus Finals will be held on April 7, 2022. Admittance into this event is by invitation only.
