When you enter the fourth floor of Conrad Grebel University College's new Academic Building expansion and step into the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement, what will you find?
The space within the Centre for Peace Advancement is designed to augment its core activities: research, incubation, and community engagement. The Centre's 6,000 square feet of space take on a variety of forms, each with their own part to play in supporting the work of the Centre and its participants.
The Centre for Peace Advancement manifests itself in the combination of office spaces, meeting rooms, the Winfield Fretz Seminar Room for graduate studies, the grad student lounge known as the 'Grad Hive', Grebel Peace Incubator, and the Grebel Gallery.

Affiliate offices
The Centre for Peace Advancement provides co-location space for affiliate organizations with multiple staff. Currently this includes four organizations with varying needs, including multiple office arrangements totalling 800 and 380 square feet, and two single offices of 170 square feet.
J. Winfield Fretz Seminar Room
A classroom for up to 20 people with a digital projector and screen that can be used for meetings outside of class times. Winfield Fretz was the first President at Conrad Grebel University College, 1963-1973. He was an innovator and leader, spurring on many initiatives including the Mennonite Relief Sale in New Hamburg and the Mennonite Savings and Credit Union, now Kindred Credit Union.
The Epp Peace Room
Participants in the Grebel Peace Incubator have access to the Epp Peace Room, which was made possible by generous contributions from the Epp family and friends, in honour of the work of Helen L. and Frank H. Epp. This 450 square foot room provides an open and collaborative work space in the Centre with windows overlooking the south side of the campus. It includes six dedicated desks with lockable drawers, white boards, and a shared work table.
Regehr Room
A meeting room for up to 10 people at the Southwest most corner of campus. Ernie and Nancy Regehr were instrumental in the founding of Project Ploughshares and are alumni of Conrad Grebel University College. The naming of this meeting room was made possible by donations to Ploughshares and the College in their honour.
Grebel Gallery
The Grebel Gallery is located in the heart of the Centre for Peace Advancement. Totalling approximately 700 square feet, it is central to the Centre's strategic commitment to “peace and artistic expression.” The gallery curates and hosts peace-related exhibits aligned with the academic calendar for the purpose of engaging community members in a process of mutual learning and shared action.
Grebel Gallery programming is supported by the Grebel Gallery Endowment established by Karen Thiessen and Jim Tiessen.
Together with the adjacent Buzz Space, the Grebel Gallery also serves as a venue for receptions, book launches, and coffee houses.
