Alanna Valcke

Graduate Student

Alanna will be starting her fifth year of the MA/Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology in the Fall of 2019. She is interested in studying how young children learn to work collaboratively with others. Her master's research examined the various influences of children's sharing behaviours, while her doctoral research will be focused on how children learn to take turns with others.

Nicole Gevaux

Nicole is in her 5th/6th year of the MA/PhD program in Clinical Psychology. For her doctoral research, she is continuing her line of research investigating how gender and socio-cognitive abilities influence children’s social interactions with peers and performance in competitive environments.

Shirley Ong

Graduate Student

Shirley is in her 6th year of the MA/PhD program in Clinical Psychology. For her Master's research, she investigated different characteristics that influence how adults interpret different statements, namely literal and ironic messages. For her doctoral work, she is interested in examining the factors that are related to the interpretation and usage of prosocial lies. 

Celina Bowman-Smith

Celina is in her 5th year of the MA/PhD program in Clinical Psychology. For her doctoral work, she is investigating adolescents’ communication on social media, including what they hope to receive from other users when posting on social media and the individual differences that influence these desires.

Charlotte Aitken

Graduate Student

Charlotte is in the first year of her PhD Program in Clinical Psychology. Her research program looks at the ways in which parents’ and youths’ ability to consider the perspectives of others relates to youths’ ability to form meaningful social connections in adolescence. For her Master’s thesis, Charlotte examined how parent and youth mentalizing related to youth social ability, and how parents’ ability to respond sensitively to their teenagers changes during times of stress, like COVID-19.
