What is Linux?

a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. This has been brewing since april, and is starting to get ready.

Of course, Linux is the now the most popular operating system in the world. Over 80% of all smartphones shipped in 2019 run Android, a variant of Linux modified by Google, most webservers run a server version of Linux, and all of the top 500 supercomputers run Linux. It is impossible to think of the mobile, networked world of computing without Linux. It is still free, and still practical, but it definitely supports much more than a 5.25” harddrive.

Happy Linux's birthday! September 17 is the day when Linux kernel was first released to the world.
More than a quarter of a century have passed since its birth. Thanks to its creator, Torvalds, we now benefit from the Linux distributions. Let us name some popular ones: Fedora (Red Hat), openSUSE (SUSE), Ubuntu (Canonical Ltd.) and many more!
