We are pleased to present the 2025 Performance Management Field Research Symposium. The event is being held April 24-25, 2025 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The symposium is jointly organized by the CPA Ontario Centre for Sustainability Reporting and Performance Management at the University of Waterloo and the Robert Beyer Center for Managerial Accounting and Control at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The symposium will feature four research working paper presentations focused on different performance management topics. The common theme of the research being presented is that all of the studies rely on field-based data. We have a terrific line-up of presenters and discussants (you can click on their papers in the pdf's below):
- Presentation by Sofia Lourenço (University of Lisbon), with a discussion by Steve Wu (Ivey Business School)
- Presentation by Henry Eyring (Duke University), with a discussion by Shelley Li (University of Southern California)
- Presentation by Michal Matějka (Arizona State University), with a discussion by Theresa Libby (University of Central Florida)
- Presentation by Melissa Martin (University of Illinois Chicago), with a discussion by Fei Du (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign)
University of Wisconsin–Madison
The symposium will commence with a reception on April 24 (Thursday) at 6:00 pm at the Fluno Center. Friday (April 25) will start with breakfast followed by two paper presentations in the morning and two in the afternoon; lunch and snacks will also be provided. The symposium will wrap-up by 4:00 pm on Friday.

Hotel and transportation
Attendees will be responsible for their own transportation and hotel accommodation expenses.
We have arranged two room blocks:
- Fluno Center – $170/night
- Hampton Inn – $159/night
If you plan to stay for only Thursday night (April 24), we recommend booking a room at the Fluno Center. If you plan to stay for both Thursday and Friday night (April 24 and 25), we recommend booking a room at the Hampton Inn. The Hampton Inn is a very short walk from the Fluno Center (less than 5 minutes).
Please note that it can take 30-45 minutes (depending on traffic) to commute from the Fluno Center to the Dane County Regional Airport. Taxi and rideshare services are available, and it is best to make pre-arrangements.
