Out-of-province Tuition Changes
May 23, 2023
In March 2023, the Government of Ontario introduced flexibility to increase tuition fees for domestic, out-of-province students by up to five per cent. With this, the University of Waterloo’s Board of Governors has approved a five per cent tuition rate increase for domestic out-of-province undergraduate programs, and select graduate programs, effective fall 2023.
We’re reaching out now to inform you of this tuition rate change as it now may impact you. Effective fall 2023, the University of Waterloo will implement a new tuition type for domestic out-of-province students.
When you applied to the University of Waterloo, your residency status indicated an out-of-province address, which means you may see an increase of five per cent on your tuition fee bill for fall 2023. Further details about the change, including frequently asked questions and who qualifies as a Domestic Out of Province (DOP) student vs. a Domestic Ontario (DON) student can be found on The Centre’s website.
If you meet certain conditions, you may be eligible to appeal your DOP status and pay domestic Ontario resident tuition fees. The exemption criteria and appeals process will be added to the website and available to students on July 21, 2023.
You can expect to receive your fall 2023 fee bill in July 2023, which will detail your new DOP tuition. Tuition fee schedules can be found on the Student Financial Services website.
