Keeping graduate students informed of news, updates, and events.

Current graduate students are automatically registered to receive the graduate student e-news when they register for the term by becoming fees arranged.

What is the graduate student e-news?

The graduate student e-news is a weekly email newsletter that is sent every Thursday to graduate students. The graduate student e-news is published by Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs in collaboration with campus partners and contains valuable information about:

  • News and updates
  • Events and workshops
  • Important academic dates and deadlines
  • Awards and funding opportunities
  • Current graduate research studies
  • And more!

All current graduate students automatically receive the graduate student e-news. If you are a faculty or staff member and want to receive the graduate student e-news, you can subscribe via our online form.

Graduate student e-new submission guidelines

  • The graduate student e-news is sent to registered graduate students every Thursday during classes and includes information for the following week (example: e-news sent on Thursday, January 11 will cover the week of January 15-19).
  • The submission deadline for content to be included in the upcoming e-news is the Tuesday at noon prior to each e-news release date.
  • Content should be submitted via the Graduate student e-news submission request web form. If you have an e-news submission request but have missed the submission deadline, please email gradcomms@uwaterloo.ca
  • Content submitted for the e-news should be no longer than 250 characters (including spaces) and include at least one hyperlink.
  • Information included in the e-news should pertain to all graduate students or a large subsection (e.g., master's students).
  • Requests for repeated submission entries are typically not included, as the weekly publication date is designed to reflect "just enough, just in time" information.

Tips and tricks

  • Be sure to include both a title and description in your submission.
  • Explain how your event/workshop relates to graduate students (i.e., how can they benefit, or what will they take away?).
  • Be sure to include hyperlinks to a meaningful landing page that is not behind a login screen (e.g., link to event descriptions rather than login pages on WaterlooWorks or Portal).
  • For examples of previous e-news submissions, visit the archive page.

Submissions may be edited for clarity and brevity.
