Nominations open for Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision

The Graduate Studies Office is now collecting nomination packages for the Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision for the 2016-2017 year.

This award "recognizes exemplary faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in graduate student supervision."

Normally three faculty members will be recognized with this award annually. The winners will receive a $1,000 award and be recognized at spring convocation.

The guidelines and application form have been updated and are available on the Graduate Studies website in the forms section under "awards/bursaries". The GSO has detailed guidelines on how to prepare a nomination package.

Letters can be addressed as "To Whom It May Concern", and while electronic PDF packages submitted by the Faculty to the GSO are preferred, hard copy packages are also acceptable.

The nomination package submission deadline is November 1, 2016.

Applied Health Sciences and Environment are permitted to submit a maximum of two submissions, while Arts, Engineering, Mathematics and Science are permitted three submissions. Under exceptional circumstances, one additional nomination will be considered.

Emergency notification system test Tuesday

A test of the University’s campus-wide emergency communication system will take place on Tuesday, October 11 at 8:30 a.m.

The emergency communication channels being tested include:

  • Tweets to @uwaterloo and @WatSAFEapp
  • WatSAFE mobile app
  • the ‘UW Emerge’ on-screen pop-up for desktops and laptops
  • Skype for Business Instant Messages.

Please be advised that this is just a test. The message displayed will read: “TEST of the UW Emergency Notification System. During an actual emergency or threat you would receive instructions. No action is required.”

More information regarding the emergency would be available at alert.uwaterloo.ca .

Fire drills in some buildings are scheduled to start at 9:00 am. Please be aware those are separate from this test.

In the event of a real emergency during this test, please contact Police Services at 519-888-4911, or extension 22222.

Be sure to install the WatSAFE app on your device to receive this test message, and more importantly, to stay informed of campus emergency situations. Visit the WatSAFE website for more details.

Anyone with questions or concerns is invited to contact the IST Service at helpdesk@uwaterloo.ca or ext. 44357.
