Proposed hotel looks to expand campus and community services

With our campus and community continuing to grow and evolve, Waterloo's Board of Governors has approved University support for the re-zoning required for the Kothari Group's proposal to build a hotel and conference centre. The developer-led proposal is to build a nine-storey hotel on Hagey Boulevard in the David Johnston Research + Technology Park.
For more than two years, the Kothari Group has developed the proposal for a new hotel that includes a conference centre and guest accommodations to serve the needs of University visitors, local businesses and the surrounding community. Kothari Group is an alumni-founded development firm with expertise in hotel infrastructure.
“Changes across our campus and city signal the need to reimagine how our physical spaces serve evolving community and institutional needs,” says Jacinda Reitsma, vice-president, administration and finance. “Kothari Group’s proposal demonstrates how space in the R+T Park can be used to support not only campus priorities but also broader community services.”
The proposed location offers access to the ION and nearby institutions, enabling it to serve visiting academics and community members attending local events or using nearby sports facilities.
The City of Waterloo is expected to review the zoning change application this fall. The University will share updates with the campus community as more information becomes available.
Workday Recruiting is now live at the University of Waterloo
A message from Human Resources
After several months, the new Workday Recruiting platform has launched. Designed to streamline the hiring process, this new employee recruitment platform will also enhance the candidate experience and provide administrators with valuable data to support informed decision-making. Workday Recruiting enables more efficient, consistent, and transparent recruitment practices. The initiative was a collaborative effort involving Human Resources, Information Systems & Technology, Change Management, and Deloitte, the University’s implementation partner.
Employees will now have access to the Jobs Hub, where they can explore internal opportunities, set job alerts, and track application statuses. Talent Profiles allow staff to showcase their skills, certifications, and career aspirations. All employees, regardless of internal status, will apply through the internal portal housed within the Job Hub in Workday and the internal postings section of the Careers website. For hiring managers, the new dashboard simplifies job requisitions, candidate tracking, and offer management, which seamless transitions into onboarding – all on one platform. To support this change, HR is offering online information sessions in July for both staff and hiring managers.
For Staff/Candidates:
- Monday, July 7, 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., OR Monday, July 11, 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (Register through Portal)
For Hiring Managers:
- Monday, July 7, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., OR Monday,July 11, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Register through Portal)
