EdTech Sandbox to open at Dana Porter Library

A message from the Libraries, the Office of the Associate Vice-President, Academic (AVPA)/Teaching Innovation Incubator (TII) and Instructional Technology and Media Services (ITMS/IST).
A new collaboration is coming to the Dana Porter Library (DP) this September. Located on the third floor of DP, the EdTech Sandbox will provide a centrally accessible, in-person space for staff, instructors and students to experiment with educational technologies, such as virtual reality headsets, 3D scanners and a 360 camera.
This three-year pilot between the Libraries, AVPA, TII and ITMS will foster innovation by leveraging shared resources and expertise within a flexible active-learning environment, laying the groundwork for the learning and teaching strategies of the future. Stay tuned for more information about the EdTech Sandbox.
If you have questions, please contact Kyle Scholz, interim managing director, Teaching Innovation Incubator.
Co-op's coming of age

This is the latest article from the 2025 issue of Waterloo magazine.
In 1958, Waterloo was the first Canadian university to offer co-op — gaining paid work experience while earning a degree.
Today, Waterloo has the largest co-op program at a research-intensive university in the world, with more than 70 per cent of students gaining up to two years of employment experience during their studies. The University also has a network of more than 8,000 employers that hire Waterloo students.
