“What’s Wetlands got to do with it? Exploring the importance of Wetlands for Human Wellbeing"

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1ST, 2013 - 1:30PM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO- LOCATION DC 1302

World Wetlands Day offers an opportunity to reflect. It is of little surprise that wetland ecosystems are under threat around the world, both from changes in climate and anthropological pressures such as invasive species, development and peat harvesting.  Many are aware of the impacts this is having on plants and wildlife, threatening species and reducing biodiversity. However, the environmental services provided are not necessarily considered when describing their importance.  As such, this presentation will take a different perspective, exploring the importance of, and potential threats to, human health and wellbeing illustrated by local success stories from around the world.
