Urban Water Quality Monitoring Knowledge Exchange Workshop

Join us for a full-day workshop focusing on knowledge exchange and collaboration on urban water quality monitoring.

Water quality in cities – in Canada and around the world – is increasingly impacted by urban expansion, evolving land-use and land-cover (LULC), and climate change. Monitoring, forecasting and managing urban water quality dynamics is essential to prepare our cities for ongoing and future climate and socio-environmental challenges.

The workshop will bring together researchers, practitioners, and managers to share their experiences and expectations related to urban water quality monitoring. In turn, this will stimulate wider discussions about the potential of novel sensing methods and data-driven technologies combined with AI-driven analytics to support evidence-based sustainable management action to protect and improve the health of urban surface- and ground-water systems.

Topics covered at the workshop will range from analyzing existing stormwater quality data series, via identifying data needs for decision-making, to emerging contaminants and climate co-benefits of stormwater management.  An important outcome of the workshop will be to connect academia to municipal, regional and provincial agencies to advance smart urban water quality monitoring.
