Bhaleka participates in IPCC Seventh Assessment Report Author Meeting

From April 21-24, 2026, Bhaleka participated in the Second Lead Author Meeting of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group I contribution to the Seventh Assessment Report at the Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile.

Serving as a Chapter Scientist for Chapter 1, she supported the author team in advancing the development of the First Order Draft of the report. The meeting brought together nearly 200 Coordinating Lead Authors, Lead Authors, and Review Editors from 62 countries to assess the latest scientific understanding of climate change and contribute to the IPCC’s assessment of the physical science basis of climate change.

Building on discussions initiated during the first author meeting in Paris in December 2025, participants worked collaboratively to refine key scientific assessments that will form the foundation of the Working Group I report. The report will undergo multiple rounds of expert and government review before its completion as part of the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report.

The IPCC assessment process plays a critical role in providing policymakers with rigorous, evidence-based information on climate change, its drivers, and future risks. Participation in this international effort reflects ERG’s ongoing commitment to advancing climate science and contributing to global environmental research and policy discussions.
