Ecohydrology Research Group academic visit to Xi’an University of Technology
On September 28, 2025, Prof. Philippe Van Cappellen, Canada Excellence Research Chair Laureate in Ecohydrology and leader of the Ecohydrology Research Group (ERG), and Dr. Shengde Yu, representing the ERG, visited Xi’an University of Technology (XUT). The visit was warmly welcomed by President Liu Yunhe at the university’s first reception room.
President Liu welcomed Prof. Van Cappellen’s visit and provided an overview of XUT’s history, academic development, research platforms, and international collaborations. He highlighted that XUT is at a critical stage of its "Double First-Class" development, with water resources engineering being one of its key strengths, which aligns closely with Prof. Van Cappellen's research field. He expressed hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation with the Ecohydrology Research Group, particularly in research collaboration, joint talent development, and academic discipline construction.
Prof. Van Cappellen thanked the university for its warm reception, reflecting on the successful history of collaboration in ecohydrology and introducing his team’s main research directions. He expressed his hope that both institutions would continue to collaborate on major scientific issues such as aquatic ecosystem protection, watershed pollution mitigation, and water environment responses under climate change, contributing to sustainable global ecological development. Prof. Van Cappellen also looks forward to engaging in further discussions with XUT’s research teams, with the goal of expanding collaborative research projects and enhancing the relationship between the two institutions.
The visit will last for six days, during which Prof. Van Cappellen and the XUT research teams will engage in in-depth academic exchanges and cooperation on ecohydrology and related fields.
