Marianne named Honorary Member of the University

The Ecohydrology Research Group is proud to celebrate Marianne Vandergriendt, who has been named an Honorary Member of the University of Waterloo, the highest honour awarded to staff members for outstanding service and lasting contributions to the University community.

Marianne’s remarkable 43-year career at Waterloo began in 1981 in Dr. James Barker’s Organic Geochemistry Lab. In 2011, she joined the ERG to help establish and manage the lab under the leadership of Dr. Philippe Van Cappellen. For over a decade, Marianne played a vital role in the success of the ERG’s research program, combining exceptional technical skill with compassion, mentorship, and dedication to her colleagues and students.

Following her retirement in 2024, Marianne has been enjoying time with her husband and five grandchildren, while fondly remembering her years in the lab and the many students she supported.

The ERG congratulates Marianne on this well-deserved honour and thanks her for her invaluable contributions to our group and to the University of Waterloo. Learn more about this award and Marianne’s accomplishments using this link.
