New publication on role of groundwater on Si:P ratios in major tributary to Lake Erie

The May 2018 issue of Science of The Total Environment will feature a publication by Taylor Maavara, Stephanie Slowinski, Fereidoun Rezanezhad, Kim Van Meter, and Philippe Van Cappellen. The paper is titled "The role of groundwater discharge fluxes on Si:P ratios in a major tributary to Lake Erie". Focusing on groundwater and surface water throughout the lower Grand River in Ontario, the researchers constructed silicon (Si) and phosphorus (P) budgets to quantify drivers of riverine Si:P ratios. Among the results highlighted, the paper shows that groundwater contributes a significant fraction of Si and P loads to Lake Erie.
